Zach was playing on the Las Vegas 51's, a Triple-A affiliate of the New York Mets. He was on a road trip in Colorado and thankfully I was on the road with him. There was talk about going to play in Japan and of course I had a million thoughts going on in my head.
"No way is this happening! I can't be away from my family and my dog, Hercules! No way! Nooooo way! I don't eat sushi or any type of Japanese food! Well, I like white rice, so I guess I will be okay! Nope, not in a million years am I going to another country without my dog, Mom, and Dad! Oh heck no! How am I going to talk to anyone? Who is going to do my nails and hair? Nope, sorry Zach you are on your own with this one! Ugh, I can't do that to my husband! I guess I am going! Nah, this won't really happen! We will just be here in Colorado and then off to Oklahoma like we planned! I mean I have my plane tickets! We can't just leave our stuff in Vegas! No, but seriously, how will I survive?"
A few days later... "Linds, we leave Friday." Holy cow, shit just got real. When I found out the news, I just about threw up. This was actually happening. I was going to Japan with Zach. No one else was coming with us.
At that point we were still in Colorado and Zach was going to play in his last game as a New York Met. He left me alone in the hotel room, which was not a good idea since I was not mentally stable. Ok, ok, I was mentally stable, just a nervous wreck. I went and ate everything in site, not knowing when I would see American food again. I got a manicure, pedicure, and an eyebrow wax. I was more or less preparing for the world to end. I got ready and went to his last game. Of course at the game I ate nachos, a whole plate of them. I wasn't sure if Japan had nachos at their stadium.
We left Colorado the next day and flew to Las Vegas to pack up our condo. For those of you that know me, you know how much I hated living in Las Vegas. When we got there, I suddenly realized I was going to miss that freakin place. It's not every day you see Elvis walk to a gas station.
We were told by a few people who played in Japan to stock up on OTC medicines and our favorite toiletries. We may have went a little overboard. $700 later and we were ready to go... I think...
That night I made Zach go to see a Comedy Pet Show. I reminded him that if he was making me go to Japan, I was making him go to see a show. After the show, we ate dinner at his favorite place in Vegas, Firefly. We went back to our condo and barely slept that night. Nerves were getting the best of us. The next morning we woke up and got ready. I didn't realize all of the fuzz on the shirt I was wearing. It took us about 10 minutes to get it all off of my shirt. Zach just had to say "Why would you wear that shirt?" And my response... "Why would you make me go to Japan?" Finally, we packed our rental car. Why didn't we get an SUV and not a Nissan Versa? Needless to say, our 7 bags and suitcases were not that easy to pack into a car. Oh well, we made it work.
