Off Day in Osaka

Monday, June 30, 2014

I decided to try on Zach's batting helmet. What do you think? Maybe I could be a foul ball girl? Wait, that would mean less people watching and more paying attention. I think I'll pass.

In the morning, we went out for a walk to the Osaka Castle. There had to be a school field trip because there were way too many kids for my liking. Yes, I know I am a teacher, but any teacher would agree that field trips are nightmares. We decided not to take a tour of the castle and just get ice cream instead!

In the afternoon, Tomo took us shopping. The first store we went into was Nike. Before I could try on a shirt, the lady told me to put on a face cover. A what? She obviously knew I had no idea what she was talking about because she came into the fitting room and showed me what to do. That was the weirdest thing I had to do before trying on a shirt. The reason for the face cover is so that makeup doesn't end up on the shirt. Smart concept, but what about deodorant? I'm more likely to get deodorant on a shirt than makeup. I may invent an armpit cover.

Next stop, shoe heaven. At least for Zach. As soon as I walked in I saw some crazy shoes. Who would want a huge animal as a tongue on their shoe? I tried to talk Zach into getting a pair, but he ended up getting a pair of Jordans. Like I didn't see that coming. Apparently the shoes are almost impossible to find back home. Uh huh, sure they are.

Look! A New York Mets jersey!

The next store we went into was one of a kind. All of the shoes were wrapped in plastic because they are collectibles. Some of the shoes were brand new and some of the shoes were used. A used, dirty shoe, wrapped in plastic. That doesn't make any sense to me.

Ah, finally a store I was familiar with. Under Armour. Well, too bad I had to try on an XL. No matter how much I liked the shirt, I was not buying an XL. No way in _ _ _ _. You can fill in the blanks. I saw a baseball shirt size small. I actually bought a small! In Men's. Ha! Oh well what are you gonna do? Speaking of baseball, Zach was all about the baseball section as you can see from the pictures he made me take.

Zach found an Andruw Jones shirt in another sporting goods store that we went into. Andruw is on the Eagles with Zach. I sent this picture to him and said, "Your #1 Fan." He was cracking up.

The guy working in the store was all decked out in Mets gear. He was all beside himself when Tomo told him Zach used to play for them. He quick ran in the back for a marker and had Zach sign his Mets hat and an Eagles hat.

While we were waiting for Tomo to get his contacts, we walked around the market. Oh you know, grapes, peaches, mushrooms, and fish. Just your usual everyday groceries. I hope you can tell the sarcasm in that sentence.

For dinner, we had Teppanyaki. At home it's called Hibachi. It was definitely different than what I'm used to, but the steak was delicious. My extra, extra well done no pink steak. The only way I can eat it. The view was the best part. We could see the city of Osaka and the Osaka Castle.

Zach had to get treatment on his arm after we ate. I decided to get a massage in the room. What an experience! This tiny little Japanese lady came to the room. She was about 80 years old. I laid on the bed and she climbed on up and gave me a massage. I wasn't quite sure what to make of it. I held back a laugh the entire time. Picture this. Me laying on the bed while a little lady is crawling next to me while doing a massage. When she was done, I sat on the edge of the bed trying to process what had just happened!

  1. The Mets may not be at their best lately, but there are still diehard fans that'll do anything to get an autograph! That guy must have thanked his lucky stars for bumping with Zach. As for you, it's not a good shopping trip. I suppose you could get lucky next time and find something that would suit your size. Good luck!
